Hypnotherapy for Addictions
Getting your life back, one small step at a time.
Compulsion, habit, craving, need, addiction, obsession, thing, hook, dependence…
Whatever you call it, it might feel like something has taken over. Like you’re no longer the one steering the ship. Maybe it started out as a way to cope, or to feel better, or to escape. But now, it’s in charge. And you’re left picking up the pieces, again and again.
We use hypnotherapy for addictions to help you gently unravel what’s behind the behaviour, so you can feel more like yourself again. Not fighting your urges, not white-knuckling your way through the day, but calmly back in control. And that starts with understanding what’s really going on beneath the surface. If you’re looking for a natural, supportive way to change, Purley Oaks Hypnotherapy for addictions could be the next step.

When a Behaviour Becomes a Burden
Do you spend time thinking about when you can next do your “thing”? Has it started to interfere with your work or your relationships? Maybe it’s affecting your health or leaving you feeling ashamed, anxious or stuck.
Some people describe it as a craving. Others as a routine they can’t break. Sometimes it feels like a comfort, other times a punishment. It might be:

We’ve used hypnotherapy for addictions with clients facing all kinds of problem behaviours, including:
- Nicotine and vaping
- Alcohol misuse or binge drinking
- Food addiction and emotional eating
- Gambling
- Porn and sex addiction
- Overworking and perfectionism
- Phone and social media overuse
- Compulsive shopping or spending
- Secretive or shame-driven behaviours
Or maybe it’s something else entirely. Something you don’t talk about. Something that feels like a secret.
And it’s not always clear if it is an addiction, or just something that’s got out of hand. But if you’re here, reading this, something doesn’t feel right. Something in you is asking for help. That’s reason enough to start exploring using hypnotherapy for addictions.
Some clients come with a clear label, others don’t. It doesn’t matter what you call it. What matters is whether it’s hurting your life, and whether you’re ready to change your relationship with it. Purley Oaks Hypnotherapy offers a powerful, compassionate way forward. Hypnotherapy for addictions gives you a new way to respond to old patterns, without relying on willpower alone.
It’s Not a Failure of Willpower
Most people battling addiction blame themselves. “If I had more self-discipline…” “If I really wanted to stop, I would…” But addiction isn’t about weakness. It’s about unmet needs.
If your emotional life isn’t working, if you feel unsafe, alone, unloved, ashamed or disconnected, your mind will seek relief. Sometimes that comes in the form of something that looks like a solution. It gives you a temporary high, a moment of calm, a brief escape.
But it doesn’t last. So you do it again.
And over time, your brain learns: this is how we cope. This is how we soothe. This is what we need. Even when it’s clearly not helping anymore.
We don’t see you as someone with a broken brain or a lifelong condition. We see someone who has adapted, intelligently, creatively, in response to difficult emotions or life experiences. You’re not broken. You’re just ready for something different.
You Are Not Powerless
We know how easy it is to lose hope. Especially if you’ve been struggling for years, or tried other methods that didn’t stick. But real change becomes possible when we shift the focus from fighting the behaviour to understanding the need behind it.
At Purley Oaks Hypnotherapy, we’ll help you reconnect with what really matters to you, the parts of your life that might feel buried or out of reach right now. Things like safety. Belonging. Purpose. Peace.
We work gently and respectfully, starting from where you are. Whether you’re ready to stop completely or you’re just beginning to question things, you’ll be met with kindness, not judgement. Together, we’ll look at:
- What the behaviour gives you, emotionally or mentally
- What’s missing or unbalanced in your life
- What patterns from the past might still be running in the background
- What new beliefs and behaviours need to be installed
Because once your needs are being met in healthier ways, the old patterns start to loosen on their own. You don’t need to fight the craving, you just don’t need it anymore.

When you learn to trust your own mind again, everything starts to change. Hypnotherapy gave me that gift, and it’s something I now love passing on.”

How Hypnotherapy for Addictions Works
Purley Oaks Hypnotherapy helps by working directly with the subconscious, making hypnotherapy for addictions a practical and effective way to create change at the root. It’s not about losing control. Quite the opposite.
We help you reconnect with the part of you that wants to change, that knows what’s best for you. The part that’s been drowned out by fear, guilt or overwhelm.
Using hypnotherapy for addictions, we work on:
- Releasing subconscious triggers
- Building inner calm and emotional resilience
- Installing new coping strategies
- Strengthening self-belief and motivation
- Letting go of past guilt or trauma
We also draw on NLP and other tools to help you spot your blind spots and change those old “this is just who I am” stories that keep you stuck.
What It’s Like to Work With Us
We’re Sophie and Simon, the therapists behind Purley Oaks Hypnotherapy, and we each bring our own style and experience to the work. Sophie has a background in natural health and often works with women’s wellbeing, food and emotional balance. Simon specialises in self-confidence and smoking cessation, and brings warmth, humour and deep curiosity to each session.
We work from our home-based practice in South Croydon and offer both in-person and online sessions. Some people prefer the calm of face-to-face therapy, others feel safer opening up from home, both are equally effective.
When you reach out to us, we’ll gently explore what’s been going on for you and what support you’re looking for. If we think one of us is a better fit for your specific issue, we’ll let you know.
However we work together, our aim is to help you feel safe, understood, and gently guided towards the change you’re ready for.
A Different Way Forward
You don’t have to go through this alone. And you don’t have to keep doing the thing that’s hurting you just to feel OK for a moment. Change doesn’t have to be dramatic or forced. Sometimes, the biggest changes start quietly, with a single conversation.
If you’re ready to feel more in control, more at peace, and more like yourself again, we’re here to help.
